Abstract

Cardiovascular diseases (CVD) are one of the leading causes of mortality worldwide and have been widely studied in the health field. These diseases mainly affect older adults, often presenting multiple risk factors simultaneously. Furthermore, Alzheimer's disease (AD) is a highly prevalent condition among older adults. Therefore, research has been conducted to establish possible connections between AD and other health conditions, seeking to contribute to the diagnosis, care, and prevention of this disease. In this context, some studies have investigated risk factors for CVD, which are also risk factors for AD. A relevant biomarker for AD is ADAM10, responsible for the cleavage of amyloid precursor protein (APP), preventing the formation of beta-amyloid peptide (Ab), a molecule associated with high blood pressure levels, which, in turn, is a known CVD risk factor. This study investigates the possible association between ADAM10 levels and cardiovascular risk. To do this, cognitively healthy individuals will have their cardiovascular risk assessed, along with quantifying ADAM10 levels in blood plasma. Possible associations between these two variables will be investigated. This research can provide essential results to understand the interaction between cardiovascular risk factors and biomarkers for AD, helping to develop more effective diagnostic and care strategies for these conditions.
