Abstract

The objective of the research project is to conduct a systematic study of the Moiré pattern's effect on the optical properties of van der Waals (vdW) heterostructures, both from the perspective of fundamental physics and for the development of optoelectronic devices based on these systems. To achieve this, we aim to initiate a scientific collaboration between laboratories in South Korea and the state of São Paulo, involving studies on systems based on vdW heterostructures. In particular, the project has the following specific objectives: (1) Develop strategies to obtain high-quality samples/devices of vdW heterostructures; (2) Investigate the effects of Moiré patterns on exciton-exciton interactions and the quantum yield of interlayer excitons; (3) Study the optical and electronic properties of vdW heterostructures as a function of the alignment angle between layers; (4) Apply the conclusions obtained to design/model new devices based on vdW heterostructures; (5) Develop and test prototypes; (6) Discuss opportunities for future long-term collaborative projects.
