Abstract

The single crystalline CVD diamond, obtained through microwave plasma-assisted deposition technology (MWPACVD), has raised strong scientific and technological interest due to its wide field of applications, such as quantum computing, nuclear batteries, radiation sensors, Schottky diodes, field effect transistors and other high performance semiconductor devices, surpassing in scope of applications, the carbon single crystal obtained from the HPHT (High Pressure and High Temperature) technique, especially, due to the possible dimensions to be obtained, control of the material's quality and doping. However, many difficulties related to the nature of the process are currently faced, among which the main ones are centered on the understanding of nitrogen incorporation, formation of dislocations, and the difficulty of finding adequate large scale fabrication parameters. In this proposal, therefore, with the experience already acquired in controlling the MWPACVD technique and obtaining single crystalline CVD diamond with different properties, the objective is to determine optimized conditions for the growth of colorless CVD diamond, with a high degree of purity and low density of defects, and conclude the studies of scale parameters for the gemstone market, initially focused on jewelry, but additionally and mainly, evolving towards large high-technology applications. Also, this project will focus on the development to improve the infrastructure of special characterizations necessary to place the country at the forefront of world development.
