Abstract English is the official language of aviation since it is the most globalized sector of the industry and all professionals in this field not only need but are also required to use English to communicate in both oral and written situations. Aeronautical mechanics and engineers, professionals whose work is based on technical publications, often face challenges considering the language since such documentation is mostly written in English and 80% of all aircraft technicians around the world are not native speakers. In this context, it is essential that professionals become familiar with technical terms in order to correctly follow instructions and avoid misunderstandings, especially in countries where English is not a native language such as Brazil. However, despite initiatives proposing to simplify the language of manuals, there is a lack of materials which can be used by aviation professionals as reference for technical terms and other linguistic aspects, especially multilingual ones. In this sense, the development of the pre-alpha phase of a bilingual (English-Portuguese) visual dictionary software is proposed, whose inputs will be derived from the analysis of technical publications. | |
