Abstract

Ocular surface disease (OSD) is a multifactorial condition of the ocular surface with a great impact on quality of life and epidemiological importance. The use of blood products and components has gained more space for their treatment. Autologous serum (AS) is now widely used with proven efficacy for treating ocular surface disease. Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) has also been shown to be effective, with promising results, as has the use of plasma rich in growth factor (PRGF). The main objective of this project is to systematize the preparation of AS, PRP and PRGF, testing their frozen, cryopreserved and lyophilized storage, to verify the impact of different preparation and storage techniques on the dosages of growth factors (EGF, TGF-²1, VEGF and PDGF), pH and its biological potential in ocular tissue cell culture. Scientific research on new therapeutic modalities related to the systematization of the production of blood component eye drops is a partnership between the Department of Ophthalmology at the State University of Campinas - Unicamp, the BTTC (Bank of Tissues and Cellular Therapy) and LNBio (National Laboratory of Biosciences) of CNPEM (National Center for Research in Energy and Materials). It represents an excellent opportunity for research and technological and scientific advances in DSO, with proposals for therapeutic options and conservation methods appropriate for the production and distribution of these products on a large scale.
