Abstract

This project of research for a Foreign Internship Scholarship stems from the Master's research titled "The Russian David Widhopff and the representation of Brazilian themes between France and Belém do Pará (1895-1910)" (process number 2022/10872-4), carried out in the Graduate Program in Art History at the Federal University of São Paulo, under the guidance of Professor Dr. Elaine Dias. The main objective of this BEPE is to access the works of art of David Widhopff created in France before coming to Brazil and upon his return to France, as well as other French bibliographic sources to understand his Brazilian production in the periodicals O Mosquito, Zig-Zag, A Província Ilustrada, Folha do Norte and in the book "Horto", by Auta de Souza. In France, we aim to access Widhopff's works preserved in the collections of the Musée du Louvre, Bibliothèque Nationale de France, Bibliothèque de l'Institut national d'histoire de l'art (INHA) and the Musée Rodin, as well as his contributions to the periodicals La Plume and Courrier Français, also preserved in Paris. We also intend to access the symbolist references that served as a repertoire for the creation of his works, such as the artists Maurice Dénis, Odilon Redon, Fernand Khnopff, Puvis de Chavannes, Jules Joseph Lefebvre and Paul Ranson. Furthermore, we equally seek to access the bibliography related to the circle of illustrators in Montmartre, artists closely associated with Widhopff during his period of production in the illustrated newspapers Courrier Français, La Plume and La Baionnette. Among the illustrators that formed this circle, we highlight Jules Roques, Adolphe Willette, Caran d'Ache and Alphonse Mucha. Access to the visual and bibliographic sources described above will contribute to the development and final writing of masters dissertation. (AU)
