Abstract

Studies point to the critical role of psychological factors, such as pain self-efficacy, in the prognosis of patients with chronic shoulder pain. However, evidence on the efficacy and cost effectiveness of adding self-efficacy strategies to strengthening exercises and manual therapy for chronic shoulder pain is still uncertain and scarce. Thus, the main objective of this project will be to develop a randomized controlled trial with economic evaluation to verify the efficacy and cost-effectiveness of adding self-efficacy strategies to strengthening exercises and manual therapy compared to strengthening exercises and manual therapy in patients with chronic shoulder pain. It is expected that the addition of self-efficacy strategies to strengthening exercises and manual therapy generates improvement in levels of disability and self-efficacy, as well as improved self-regulation, decreased pain intensity, improved quality of life, perception of clinical improvement , decrease in the number of new medical appointments and use of analgesics related to shoulder pain. Furthermore, the addition of self-efficacy strategies will be cost-effective compared to the group that received only strengthening exercises and manual therapy. (AU)
