Abstract

The Food and Nutrition Surveillance System (SISVAN) is a public policy aimed at monitoring the population's food and nutrition conditions and is part of health surveillance. Food and Nutrition Surveillance (VAN) emerges as a field of action of the Unified Health System (SUS) and is incorporated into the National Food and Nutrition Policy (PNAN, 1999 and 2011), currently in its third guideline, which reinforces its importance for the individual and collective diagnosis of the food and nutritional situation and the identification of risk and protection factors, qualifying the management, the production of comprehensive health care and the organization of nutritional care within the scope of the SUS. VAN's fundamental practice contributes to fighting malnutrition and, ultimately, to guaranteeing the Human Right to Adequate Food and Food and Nutrition Security. Despite the relevance of this practice, the lack of comprehensive national research overshadows a deeper understanding of the epidemiological profile of the population assisted in Primary Health Care, as well as the performance of this system. Therefore, the present study will aim to describe and analyze the temporal trend of SISVAN coverage and the evolution of the nutritional status of individuals registered in the system, throughout all stages of the course of life, in the period from 2008 to 2022. An epidemiological study of time series will be conducted, with a descriptive ecological design using secondary data from information systems. This research is expected to contribute to knowledge about the implementation of SISVAN and the nutritional conditions of the SUS user population, in view of the socioeconomic and political changes experienced in recent years.
