Abstract

The following work is intended to make a comparison between the very famous Martin Azpilcueta Navarro's work "Manual para confesores e penitentes" and the less famous but also important work written by Juan Pérez Bocanegra. Navarro wrote his manual during the sixteenth century in the context of the Council of Trento. He was in touch with the missionaries in America and Asia and his manual was widely influential in Jesuit catechization but he himself was never out of Europe. On the other hand, Pérez Bocanegra was born and died in America. He wrote his Ritual Formulario in the context of Andean catechization and this had an impact in the way he saw the confessional practice. This project aims to investigate if there are relevant differences between both works. (AU)
