Abstract

The attractiveness of a bio-based economy depends mainly on technologies to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and the replacement of fossil resources, thereby increasing energy independence. However, Brazil has been considered a source of basic resources, such as land and biomass. Therefore, the research proposal is to analyze the development of the bioenergy industry in Brazil. There are two fundamental points about this research project: 1) to analyze the collaboration networks of scientific and technological knowledge to characterize the technological frontiers of bioenergy, and 2) to evaluate the development of the bioenergy market in Brazil based on these new technologies. It is intended: i) to analyze the dynamics of research networks for emerging knowledge in bioenergy at national and international level; ii) study the technological frontiers in the main areas of bioenergy research; iii) assess the socioeconomic impacts of bioenergy for Brazilian regions; iv) to characterize the phase of industrial development of bioenergy in Brazil (market phase). Its results are of fundamental importance in guiding public policies for the sustainable transition, as they allow assessing, among other factors, the impacts of scientific and technological knowledge on the formation of a bioenergy industry in Brazil.
