Abstract

The aim of this study is to analyze the relationship between the theme of learning and the textual genres that the writer Júlia Lopes de Almeida explores in her works Livro das Donas e Donzelas, Eles e Elas, Correio da Roça and Jornadas no meu País. The starting point of the study is the textual and compositional aspects hybridized by Júlia Lopes de Almeida, culminating in the subversion of the horizon of expectations of textual genres. It is suggested that the four works, read in chronological order, can be interpreted as a thematically coherent sequence of women's transition from private to public space, approaching a more practical and reflective learning as opposed to a civilizational education. This movement, in turn, can be better understood by considering the historical-social context of women in the early twentieth century in Brazil. To this end, the study uses the framework of textual genre studies and specific textual genres, literary criticism specialized in the writer, and history, especially the history of women in Brazil. In this sense, the study points out the closer relationship between text composition, themes and historical context in the work of Lopes de Almeida.
