Abstract

For the Youth and Adult Education (EJA) public, the acquisition and development of reading is not an easy achievement and, therefore, the objective of this study is to construct a Scale for the Assessment of Reading Competence by Youth Education Students and Adults (EJA). This study will be divided into two phases, phase 1, referring to the elaboration of the items and criteria of the Scale and consequent validation of the Scale constructed by judges, and phase 2, referring to the application of the Scale in a pilot study composed of 40 students from Youth and Adult Education (EJA) in public schools in the city of Marília-SP. All participants in this study will be submitted to the application of the reading subtest of the School Performance Test II (TDE-II) before completing the Scale. The filling out of the Scale by the EJA students must be done individually. The results of this study will be statistically analyzed in order to characterize the performance of students in the applied Scale and compare the results of the Scale with the reading performance findings of the TDE-II.
