Abstract

This research project has as its object and source the editions of the news broadcast by TV Tupi in São Paulo, between 1959 and 1968. These editions constitute the "Acervo Audiovisual Jornalístico da TV Tupi", at the Cinemateca Brasileira, as presented in the General Proposal. In the period covered by the research, important events took place on a continental level, such as the Cuban Revolution (1959), the creation of the Latin American Free Trade Association - ALALC (1960), the Missile Crisis (1962), successive military coups in South America, the enactment, by the OAS, of the American Convention on Human Rights (1966), various popular and student demonstrations throughout 1968, among many other events of strong social and political impact. The analysis of which events gained prominence in telereports and how they were presented interests us in this investigation.
