Abstract

The complexity of urban transformations, from the 1970s onwards, presents an intertwining of political, economic, social and cultural aspects in the production and transformation of space. One of the elements in the dialogue between the production of urban space and spatial practices is the moral aspect associated with the economy of illicit drugs and its influence on the production of particular spatialities. Through ethnographic fieldwork and semi-structured interviews, this project aims to identify the relationships between the use of illicit substances in public spaces, illegality (and its moral aspect) and the fragmentary socio-spatial logic, contributing to the continuous and necessary updating and outlining of the concept of socio-spatial fragmentation in a Latin American urban context. It is hoped to favor the expansion of FragUrb's reach from Brazilian cities to Latin American cities, allowing attention to be devoted to subjective singularities and their implications for the collective construction of spaces, listening the voices of people politically invisible by morality in central or peripherals urban enclaves in São Paulo, Brazil, and Bogotá and Medellín in Colombia.
