The BEPE project complements the activities that are being carried out in the experiments involving successive inoculations of the pathogen Austropuccinia psidii in 'Paluma' guava seedlings in Brazil. The biochemical and metabolic analyzes to be carried out in Lorraine University will contribute to the understanding of the dynamics of carbon in the diseased guava plants. The following variables from guava leaf samples inoculated in Brazil will be determined in France: C/N balance, the carbon isotope composition (´13C), the total amount of proteins, the activity of ribulose-1,5- bisphosphate carboxylase (Rubisco) and the amounts of ascorbate and glutathione. These variables, along with those assessed in Brazil, will allow a better prediction of the damage caused by guava rust in diseased plants. BEPE will be held at the University of Lorraine, in the research unit UMR 1434 Silva and the research group on the Physiology of Trees in Response to the Environment (PHARE), specialized in the physiological analysis of stressed plants, over a period of three months.
