Abstract

The goal of this project is to go a step forward in our understanding of the implications of quantum theory for spacetime and gravity, exploring its low-energy (i.e. far below Planck scale) effects beyond the scope of Quantum Field Theory in Curved Spacetimes (QFTCS). In the past decade, significant progress has been made in this direction by exploring the effects of spacetime as a mediator of entanglement for quantum systems, such as time-dilation-induced entanglement and decoherence, as well as the gravitational field of sources in quantum superpositions. In both cases, much of that progress has been accomplished within the framework of (essentially nonrelativistic) quantum information, notably by the group of Dr. Caslav Brukner and collaborators. In this context, this research internship is aimed at putting the candidate in touch with some of the state-of-the-art research being conducted in the interplay between quantum information and gravity - an approach that was pioneered in Brazil by the candidate's group. Therefore, the candidate and his group are expected to bring contributions from their relativistic background, allowing both groups to combine their expertise in QI and general relativity to unveil new effects on the field and push forward our current understanding of low-energy effects of quantum gravity.
