Abstract This project integrates the master's research related to the FAPESP process 2022/01997-8, from which it is proposed to recognize the role of meanings and uses of epic, chanson de geste and roman in the formation of Pedro I from Castile's Historia troiana. This 14th century knightly narrative emulates its main model - a lost version of Alfonso XI's Crónica troyana -, by adding supplementary material from a certain unknown copy of Alfonso X's General estoria. In order to carry out this study more efficiently, we request the approval of an internship in Spain, under the supervision of Prof. PhD. Ricardo Pichel Gotérrez, from the University of Alcalá, for more accurately verifying the reformulations of the elevated poetic genres of Greek, Latin and vernacular culture in the 14th century of the Iberian Peninsula, mainly with regard to the rhetorical-poetic practices that are part of the transmission and composition of Trojan stories manuscripts. As investigated in the first months of the research, the appropriation of classical material, especially during the 13th and 14th centuries, stems from the articulation between the authority attributed to them, the allegorical interpretations and the defense of the constitutive historical truth of events about the city, readings verified in Historia troiana. Following, it is necessary to continue the study of ancient and medieval rhetorical-poetic treatises that address the genres in question, as well as of the contact with examples of Trojan material (and their editions) present in libraries and collections in Spain, with the aim to obtain a more general understanding about the place occupied by such works in the 14th century peninsular context.
