Abstract

Temporomandibular disorder (TMD) is one of the main causes of non-dental pain in the orofacial region and can be intensified in states of psycho-emotional discomfort. It is suggested that a TMD is associated with several psychosocial disorders, such as depression, anxiety, somatization, catastrophizing, as well as the risk of developing TMD is higher in impaired sleep quality. Thus, the aim of the present study is to identify and evaluate the impact of psychosocial clusters or groups on mechanical pain sensitivity and modulation of patients with temporomandibular disorders. This is according to a retrospective study that will use pain studies with 18-year-old diagnostic DC/TMD (with TMD diagnosis the painful criteria for temporomandibular disorders) and healthy controls. All studies of the study group are characterized by means of psychosocial studies that characterize their profile, depression, stress, sleep profile and degree of central sensitization, as well as were by means of mechanically significant experimental tests possible mechanical tests, threshold of pressure pain and temporal summation ratio) and through conditioned pain modulation. The from reference provided to instruments and asymptomatic instruments to transform each psychosocial parameter. Scores will be used to categorize levels of commitment into social T scores with the presence or absence of TMD data. In these compared groups the tested and tested values can be conditionally modulated on pain. Differences between groups are created using the two-way Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) test. An analysis of these psychosocial changes and using psychometric scales in a standardized way has the potential to determine a more comprehensive psychosocial profile in groups with TMD and asymptomatic controls and, from that, to verify the impacts of these characteristics on somatosensory phenotypes.
