This project aims to search for a solution to the growing water pollution caused by emerging contaminants, mainly dyes, seeking an efficient removal method. Dyes are toxic to the environment and human health and are difficult to degrade. The use of filters, specifically membrane technology, has shown promising results in removing polluting dyes from water. Nanofiltration and Reverse Osmosis are two examples of membrane processes used in water treatment. In the same sense, the use of modified membranes using biomimetic models, such as those that incorporate aquaporin, also showed promise to improve the performance of separation membranes. However, the high cost and difficulty of producing aquaporin in large quantities led to the investigation of alternative materials to improve membrane technology. Thus, in this work, we propose to study the performance of a commercial ultrafiltration membrane modified with a mimetic membrane composed of phospholipids for the formation of vesicles containing ion channels, which will be studied in an attempt to remove dyes from water.
