Abstract

Malnutrition is a public health problem that affects millions of people around the world. It's a clinical condition in which nutrient intake is inadequate to meet metabolic needs of the organism. In addition to causing damage to physical and cognitive development, malnutrition can also impair the regulation of metabolic processes, in addition to interfering with hepatic metabolism, by affecting the expression of regulatory genes of lipid metabolism. The present study aims to evaluate the effect of offering prebiotics, probiotics or symbiotics on the expression of genes related to beta-oxidation and hepatic lipogenesis in rats subjected to malnutrition.
