Abstract

The main objective of this project is to take the illustrated magazine ARARA as an object of study to analyze the representations of politics, literature and everyday life in the city of São Paulo and the interior of São Paulo, edited in humorous and imagery language, contained in its organization. Material and symbolic. This print was directed by Augusto Barjona, a literate man who worked in the educational and journalistic field, working in the main newspapers that circulated at the time and editing the magazine ARARA between 1905 and 1907. We propose for the analysis of this object the cultural and political perspective in order to investigate the actions of this editor, articulated at the height of his textual production, to understand how this was reflected in this illustrated magazine. To carry out this investigation, we will appropriate the method of Cultural History, using the studies of the historian Roger Chartier, in addition to the historiography of the variety and humor press, especially Ana Luiza Martins and Elias Thomé Saliba.
