Air pollution is among the top three global risk factors for disease and death. At the urban scale, the porosity and roughness of buildings and vegetation modify natural ventilation and, consequently, affect the dispersion of atmospheric pollutants. In addition, urban vegetation affects air quality through the deposition of atmospheric pollutants. The main objective of this research is to evaluate how vegetation and urban morphology interfere with the dispersion of atmospheric pollutants. The study method will be computer simulation using ENVI-met and Graz tools. ENVI-met is a three-dimensional Computational Fluid Dynamics Simulation model adapted to simulate different atmospheric processes on an urban scale. Graz is an integrated microscale Fluid Dynamics Simulation model that considers the effect of buildings on the dispersion of atmospheric pollutants. The research material will be a case study in the Lisbon and São Paulo cities. As a result of the research, it is expected to identify the influence of vegetation and urban morphology on the dispersion of atmospheric pollutants and to develop an orientation booklet for the Lisbon and São Paulo cities.
