Abstract

The parliamentary group commonly called the "big center" has been at the core of recent events that mark discussions on the erosion of democratic institutions in Brazil. This research project seeks to understand this group based on its analysis in three axes: (i) functional; (ii) descriptive; (iii) parliamentary. With this, it is intended to characterize the big center beyond the most common approaches in Political Science, which focus only on formal institutions and on the behavior of actors within the formal rules of functioning of politics, leaving as blind spots the social and historical determinants of politics and the political game that takes place "outside the rules".
