Abstract

Despite scientific advances in Pediatric Dentistry, in Brazil, dental caries in children is still highly prevalent and, aggressively, can result in early loss of deciduous teeth. In attempt to keep the deciduous teeth in the oral cavity until the stage where they naturally fall out, root canal treatments are indicated. Additionally, mechanized pulp therapies have been widely used to optimize clinical practice, especially rotary and reciprocating systems using Nickel-Titanium (NiTi) files. We aim to evaluate and compare the root canal deviation, amount of remaining resin, touched and untouched walls, the presence or absence of perforations or fractures, and the effective preparation time for different manual and mechanized NiTi instruments. Sixty prototyped primary tooth canals will be scanned, prepared and divided into three groups according to the instrumentation used: group 1: manual instrumentation with ''K'' files; group 2: manual instrumentation with ''ProDesign M'' files; group 3: and rotary instrumentation with ''ProDesing Logic II" files. After instrumentation, a new scan will be performed and the images will be aligned (pre- and post-instrumentation) to assess canal deviation, amount of dentin remaining, presence or absence of perforations or fractures. The instrumentation time of each canal and the total preparation time will be timed with the aid of a digital stopwatch. To perform the instrumentation, the prototypes will be placed in a customized device, leaving them all in the same working position. The data obtained will be submitted to statistical analysis, considering a p value d 0.05.
