Abstract

Tracheal stenosis cases tend to increase in the following years due to the prolonged airway ventilatory protocol that COVID-19 patients were submitted. The most common alternative to tracheal stenosis rehabilitation is the T-tube prosthesis implant, which has some limitations, such as biofilm formation. In recent years, cold plasma treatment has emerged as an attractive method for preventing biofilm formation. The present work aims to study the plasma plume formation as well as reactive oxygen species (ROS) distribution inside T-tubes by using KI-Starch agar methodology. Two different cold atmospheric plasma (CAP) devices, one developed in GREMI, University of Orleans and another in FEG, UNESP will be studied. The treatment parameters of the two plasma systems will be adjusted to obtain the best biofilm inactivation and their antimicrobial efficacy compared. All treatments will be conducted with Helium as a feed gas and the mixtures of small amounts of oxygen Also, the antimicrobial effect of both cold atmospheric plasma (CAP) devices in controlling mono species biofilm inside T-tube silicone prosthesis will be evaluated. The biofilms will be grown in 2D specimens, and the biofilms will be cultivated for 48 h. The results will be analyzed by the distribution, and the most appropriate statistical test will be selected, with a 5% of the significance level. (AU)
