Abstract

Several studies have shown that individuals with good spatial skills perform better in STEAM subjects (science - technology - engineering - arts - mathematics) compared to those with lower spatial skills, making them more likely to choose studies and careers in the area. . Spatial skill, a central aspect of cognition, is extremely important for learning STEAM and is strongly associated with its success. It is also noted that there are underdeveloped issues in geometry, proportionality, and planning among many children, but there is a significant gender gap in the development of spatial skills, most notably spatial visualization, in favor of men. The main objective of this project is to offer a short-term spatial skills training program using didactic resources and virtual platforms to elementary school students, in the integral education program of a collaborating school. The present project has as one of its focuses the mitigation of gender inequality, by proposing actions to better prepare women for the cognitive demands of STEAM. Studies also indicate that training in these skills has offered greater motivation and lower dropout rates. In this proposal, activities and tasks will be developed for the training program using concepts in technology and design.
