During this research period at Goethe- und Schiller-Archiv, in Weimar, it is our intention to investigate in detail Friedrich Schiller's philosophical reading of Goethe's novel Wilhelm Meister's Apprenticeship, published by Goethe, according to the exchange of correspondence between Goethe and Schiller, with special attention to the letters exchanged between 1794 and 1797, as well as other documents in custody of the file. Schiller's and Goethe's letters, in addition to allowing a preview of the philosophical atmosphere of their time, namely Kantianism and idealism, constitute an important document for the interpretation and writing of the novel in question, whose critical analysis, when applied to what is found in the narrative path of the work, can significantly contribute to the understanding of its internal movements, as they present, in speculative language, certain meanings of the novel. By getting access to further documentation around the poets, their contemporaries and interpreters, we will seek to understand more precisely what Schiller calls the aesthetic direction of the novel. Such investigation will not only serve as an interpretative study of the Meister, but also of part of the correspondence between Goethe and Schiller, both still little studied in Brazil in the philosophical scope.
