Abstract

Activities and careers in science, technology and innovation are increasingly interdependent and internationalized. However, these relationships are complex and often deepen problems of diversity and inclusion, such as gender inequality. In analyzing the problem, the European Union (EU) identified three objectives and included them in its gender equality strategy in P&D, namely, gender equality in the areas of scientific careers, gender balance in decision-making and the integration of gender dimension in P&D content. In this sense, the objective of this research is to test the hypothesis raised in preliminary results of the international project Gender STI, co-financed by FAPESP and the EU, which guide the construction of a model for the analysis of the international interaction between two types of actors in the ecosystem of CTI, essential to innovation diplomacy: academia and industry. This research, therefore, starts from the results of the analyzes carried out by the FAPESP postdoctoral student at GENDER STI, who is the supervisor of this CI project. Thus, we intend to explore the dynamics of gender distribution in scientific careers in universities and their interaction with the private market in a localized model, but with a view to its internationalization.Specifically in this project, the hypothesis that will be tested is that the distribution of genders in the areas of knowledge at universities, especially in STEM careers, is correlated with the amounts paid by the private market to men and women for their professional areas. It is expected to verify if there are a greater number of women teachers, or a greater number of women who progress in their teaching career, in areas traditionally occupied by men, but which offer higher salaries to men in the private market. The objective of this research considering the objectives and conditions of the project, therefore, is to test the hypothesis raised in preliminary results of the analysis of the international project Gender STI. This is a first step towards creating complex models with data analysis at an international level, based on the results obtained here, from the theoretical perspective of innovation diplomacy. The division of the task between the verification of the local hypothesis and, in another later project, an analysis of a quantitative model with an international dynamics, is justified by the scope of the project.
