Abstract

Infectious diseases decimated humanity centuries ago by different agents, however, vaccines changed the course of history by conferring immunity and protection, and are considered one of the most significant advances in the science of the 19th century. In Brazil, the National Immunization Program was created in 1973 and is responsible for coordinating vaccination actions throughout the country. However, its performance declined in recent years due to the decrease in vaccination coverage, below the expected levels. It is overwhelmed by the effectiveness and necessity of vaccinating pregnant women with the objective of protecting the neonate from infectious diseases. One of the main problems that doctors find in the maternity units of the Unified Health System (SUS) during hospitalization for childbirth is incomplete and/or inconsistent notes on the prenatal cards. During the pandemic period, it is suspected that this situation has worsened. In addition, there are few studies on vaccination coverage in pregnant and postpartum women in Brazil. This work aims to evaluate the vaccination coverage of pregnant women hospitalized during labor, in public reference maternity located in Presidente Prudente, the western region of São Paulo state, Brazil, as well as to assess the knowledge of pregnant women about the importance of vaccines prescribed by the National Program of Immunization for pregnant women. Between August 2022 and December 2023, the vaccines of all prenatal cards and/or pregnant women's booklet will be registered and a structured confidential questionnaire will be freely filled in by the patients
