Abstract

Burns are very common injuries in society and have varying levels of tissue loss, which can compromise the skin's functional integrity. In Brazil, they are recorded among the main external causes of death, and this is mainly due to infections that evolve with septicemia. Thus, proper management of these lesions is important, and an example is topical antimicrobial therapy in order to avoid complications and improve patient's survival. In this context, the development of an efficient drug delivery system can improve existing treatments. In addition to the antimicrobial property, formulations must take into account pain relief and functional and aesthetic effects, aiming at patient's comfort. Therefore, the project intends to develop a topical pharmaceutical product for use in burns in order to prevent and treat microbiological infections, relieve the pain felt by the patient and promote a more efficient and aesthetically better healing. For this, a nanoparticulate delivery system will be incorporated into convenient and comfortable topical formulations for the patient, such as gels.
