The presence of oral inflammation has recently been related to the pathophysiology of cardiovascular diseases. Stomatitis is highly prevalent in patients with dental prosthesis, and its main etiological factor is infection by Candida albicans. Knowing that the interaction between the Innate and Adaptive Immune Systems, and the Neural System, is mediated by the Autonomic Nervous System, the objective of this study is to characterize the pathophysiological mechanisms of the Experimental Stomatitis Model, in the possible Autonomic imbalance.Methods: Sprague-Dawley rats will be anesthetized for inoculation of the Candida albicans suspension in the oral cavity for 3 consecutive days. The role of baroreflex and chemoreflex activation will be studied through electrical stimulation of the carotid sinus nerve for 4 days. On the 5th day after the last inoculation, a catheter will be implanted in the femoral artery. After 24 hours of catheter implantation, the animals will be submitted to records of hemodynamic parameters. The data obtained in the registry will be used to analyze the variability of Heart Rate and Blood Pressure. After hemodynamic records, tissue collection will be performed to investigate the presence of stomatitis and measure cytokines.
