Abstract

Ecovillages emerged from the countercultural and anti-system social movement of alternative communities of the 1970s. These social organizations have, as their purpose, human, social and natural regeneration. However, there is no published data on how these communities have incorporated the climate crisis and extreme events, the way in which social movements deal with the crisis can influence their power of response and the results of their social and environmental actions. The research proposal is to perform a referenced analysis of rural ecovillages in the State of São Paulo and the State of Bavaria, in Germany, as this country is a precursor of the global ecovillage movement, home to long-lived and vibrant collectives of this species and a leader in the climate debate. global. This study is of the applied, exploratory, and descriptive type of quali-quanti approach, elaborated from a bibliographic and documentary examination, and field research through semi-structured interviews with members of rural ecovillages and catalyst institutions of the movement. The data from interviews will be processed by content analysis, while documents by discourse analysis, in order to contrast what is promised in laws and public policies versus the reality of what is actually practiced within the scope of ecovillages in both countries. It is expected, therefore, to provoke debate regarding the participation and involvement of ecovillages in facing the climate crisis and extreme events, their response strategies, contributions to the Adaptation Agendas and the strengthening of social entrepreneurship, citizenship, and climate justice for both the countries.
