Wood is a versatile material and it can be used in civil construction in different ways, whether in its temporary structure or in the final building itself. However, the natural resistance of its specification is not always sufficient to guarantee the durability in construction, which requires a correct application of products to preservate and treat the material. Thus, to avoid environmental impacts due to its excessive use - especially when it does not come from reforestation - and to enable safe construction, without going through the risk of cracking and warping the wood, it is necessary to have the highest durability, which can be considerably prolonged through treatment processes.However, both the form of application and products used for treatment can cause damages to human health and the environment, due to their toxicity. This concern is evident because of the banishment on traditional products in some countries. In addition, it's important to have further studies that seek maximum efficiency of treatment products, to prevent causing harm to the consumer. In order to make those products behave in an ideal way, it must correspond to several parameters for combating xylophagous organisms and have an effective performance in the treatment of wood. The products found on the market, however, do not fully correspond to all these characteristics, requiring the choice of the one that best suits the use.The objective of this work is to study the procedures and preservatives products used to treat wood in order to contribute to improvements that answer the application demands without impacting human health and the environment.The methodology adopted will be based on a literature review of treatments and products to organize the data that was found, which will be gathered in a comparative table. The study of the application will be based on the investigation of the methods used by companies operating in the market. All of this information collected will be analyzed to prepare a final proposal. The results expected to be obtained with this research are a contribution for improvements to get better efficient ways in the treatment of wood, without causing harmful consequences to living beings.
