Abstract

Although the Standard Model's spontaneous symmetry breaking mechanism furnishes results consistent with the experimental data on the Higgs boson, there exist arguments pointing out that it should arise from a more structured model describing physics in energy scales higher than the electroweak one. This research project proposes an investigation of Standard Model extensions in which spontaneous symmetry breaking originates from radiative corrections according to the Coleman-Weinberg mechanism. Our focus will be on the construction and phenomenological analysis of extensions of the Standard Model with U(1)_X abelian gauge symmetries, under which putative right neutrinos carry different charges. It requires the introduction of singlet scalar fields under the symmetry group of the Standard Model and whose expected values in vacuum break the U(1)_X symmetry. Among our motivations is to discover the interrelationship between dynamic symmetry breaking via the Coleman-Weinberg mechanism and the generation of mass for neutrinos in these models would be. We also intend to evaluate the experimental constraints on the Z^{\prime} boson in the models and to perform a phenomenological analysis of the spectrum of scalars.
