Evaluation of physical properties of thermopolymerizable resins used in implant-supported fixed provisional complete dentures before and after accelerated aging

Abstract

In a rehabilitation with implant-supported fixed complete dentures, between the installation stage of osseointegrated implants and the installation of the definitive prosthesis, an implant-supported temporary fixed total denture with immediate loading can be used. However, this prosthesis does not have an internal cast metal bar infrastructure, which compromises itsmechanical strength. The present study aims to evaluate the porosity, roughness, and flexuralstrength of thermopolimerizable resins used in implant-supported fixed fixed provisional complete dentures with and without internal metallic reinforcement, before and afteraccelerated aging. A total of 138 samples will be made (65 mm x 10 mm x 2,5 mm) and distributed in 3 groups: Group 1: VIPI Cril Plus resin with metallic reinforcement (control);Group 2: VIPI Cril Plus resin without metallic reinforcement; Group 3: Diamond D resin without metallic reinforcement. Half of this total will be for the period before acceleratedaging and the other half will be for the period after aging. Porosity analysis will be carried out by means of optical microscopy; roughness analysis, by means of a profilometer; andflexural strength analysis, by the 3-point flexion test. The aging of samples will be carried out in a thermocycler with immersion in distilled water in alternating baths of 30 seconds attemperatures of 5 ± 1oC and 55 ± 1oC, with a total of 500 cycles. In order to carry out an adequate statistical analysis, the data obtained will be submitted to the test of adherence tothe normal curve in order to assess whether or not they come from a normal distribution. Then, appropriate statistical tests will be applied with a 5%-significance level.
