Abstract

In the last decades, advances in experimental techniques opened the way to coherently build technological devices working at the quantum regime. A remarkable example is the realization of ``Quantum Batteries,'' which are comprised of just a few quantum systems and are designed to be used to store and release energy on demand. Although it has been introduced recently, the field's theoretical machinery has developed substantially. Nevertheless, the establishment of realistic models, including, for example, the interaction of the battery with its environment, are still scarce in the literature, with modest results. Because of that, techniques to stabilize the battery due to losses caused by the environment and harness non-classical resources in the battery cycle are active research topics. In this context, the main goal of this project is to present a theoretical formalism for implementing quantum batteries in the emergent quantum platform of Nitrogen-Vacancy (NV) centres. This platform has robust control techniques and high coherence times even at room temperature. Those characteristics make NV centres suitable for implementing quantum batteries and studying the role of non-classical resources (such as coherence) in the processes of charging, stabilizing, and discharging the battery. We expect the findings of this project giving the fundamental tools to propose experimental realizations of quantum batteries in NV centres.
