Abstract

The objective of this in vitro study will be to evaluate the effect of polishing and immersion in disinfectant solutions on physical (color stability, hardness, roughness, surface free energy and surface topography) and biological properties (adhesion capacity and biofilm formation and cytotoxicity) of a denture base resin for 3D printing compared to a conventional thermopolymerizable acrylic resin. Samples of both resins will be prepared (14mm in diameter and 1.2mm in thickness) and divided into 2 groups according to the polishing protocol: CP: samples that will undergo a polishing protocol to reach an average roughness of 0.2µm ; SP: samples that will have the surface roughness standardized at 2.7 to 3.7µm (simulating the internal roughness of the dentures). The samples from the CP and SP groups will be subdivided into new groups, according to the disinfectant solutions, as follows: AD: samples immersed in distilled water; HS: samples immersed in 0.5% sodium hypochlorite; DC: samples immersed in 2% chlorhexidine digluconate; SL: samples immersed in a disinfectant liquid soap solution (Lifebuoy). All samples will be immersed at immersion times of 0, 1, 3 and 6 months and after each period, the physical and biological properties of the samples will be evaluated. The results will be tabulated and submitted to the normality test to verify the distribution of sample data. Based on the results observed through the normality test, it will be possible to determine the most appropriate statistical method at a significance level of 5%. If the data have a normal distribution, being unpaired samples, the statistical test used to verify the degree of interaction between the factors will be the factorial ANOVA.
