Abstract Ozone has been used in different therapies, auxiliary results in tissue healing and bone repairs. The ozone clinical applications have presented favorable results in the treatment of medication-related osteonecrosis of the jaw (MRONJ), whose treatment represents a challenging treatment for dentistry. This study aimed to evaluate the prevention and / or treatment of medication-induced osteonecrosis through the application of ozone therapy. Thus, 120 wistar rats will be used, which will be treated with 04 applications of 0.035 mg / kg of zoledronic acid (ZOL) via the caudal route with intervals of 15 days between applications and later their right lower molars will be removed. After extraction, the animals will continue with treatment with ZOL in the same protocol until euthanasia. The animals will be divided into five groups (n = 8) according to the established therapies: GS (Sham - ZOL will not be applied) and ozone will not be administered; GC (Clot), ozone will not be applied; GOP (Ozone Prevention), 0.7mg / Kg of intraperitoneal ozone (IP) will be applied every 2 days, starting 4 weeks before extraction and ending on the day of the procedure; GOT (Ozone Treatment), 0.7mg / Kg of ozone IP will be applied every 2 days, starting immediately after surgery and remaining for 8 weeks; GOPT (Ozone Prevention and Treatment), 0.7mg / Kg of ozone IP will be applied every 2 days, starting 4 weeks before extraction and maintaining up to 8 weeks after the procedure. In vivo analysis demineralized cuts stage, 80 animals will be used, after which 14 and 28 days after the date of extraction, the animals will be euthanized for evaluation through histometric and histomorphometric analysis. | |
