Biological and climatological phenomena and events are quite complex, since they involve different types of interactions between different biotic and abiotic elements, and they develop in wide scales of space and time. When we add the anthropic factor to these models, seeking a socio-environmental perspective of current issues, we make these relationships even more complex. If, on the one hand, there is an increasing degradation of natural ecosystems, on the other hand, human life and various economic activities are directly dependent on services provided by ecosystems to people, such as pollination of crops, production and direct supply of resources such as food and water, the control of zoonoses and even non-communicable chronic diseases and mental disorders. Thus, many of the current anthropic problems can have their answers in the so-called nature-based solutions, which consider the use and maintenance of ecosystem services. Given the complexity of the relationships involved, the proposition and effective implementation of public policies represents a communication challenge in different areas, whether in the interaction between researchers from different areas, between researchers and the government, and between these and society. Without an integrated multidisciplinary work between scientists and government, it is not possible to propose effective public policies, and without public trust in these policies, facilitated by clear communication, there is no adherence of society to policies. This journalistic research proposal aims to produce journalistic materials that clearly present to different audiences the role of scientific research and nature-based solutions for the joint construction of public policies aimed at human well-being and sustainable development. The journalistic materials will focus on the activities and research carried out by the Nucleus for Analysis and Synthesis of Nature-Based Solutions, Biota Síntese, an integrative project that involves government institutions (São Paulo State government secretaries and São Paulo City Hall), public universities, state research institutes and non-governmental organizations in the search for public policies for environmental issues aiming at nature-based solutions.
