Abstract

Pharmaceuticals, like anti inflammatories drugs (NSAIDs), have been classified as compounds of emerging concern in the aquatic environments, and due to a pseudo persistence causing an additional risk to no target species. Ecotoxicological investigations in laboratories concluded adverse effects related to endocrine disruption in the physiology of aquatic organisms when exposed to NDSAIDs. Such effects are linked behavior changes, reproduction and metabolic dysfunction, alterations that could impact the aquatic ecosystem equilibrium. Although, recent studies reported such biological effects, an integrative approach is needed in order to understand the major systemic impacts of these substances in exposures. Thus, the present study aims to investigate the biological responses in the gene transcription of neuroendocrine and metabolic pathways of amphipoda Gammarus locusta exposed to environmentally relevant concentrations of diclofenac and ibuprofen. OMICS approach will be used including RNA-Seq, molecular biomarkers, ecological parameters and modeling using in silico evaluation. The propose will bring new insights in the risk assessment procedures and NSAIDs mode of action in non target aquatic animals. (AU)
