Abstract

The structuring of the genetic material of bacterial cells differs from the process known in eukaryotes. As a consequence, the bacterial process can be an effective target for the development of antibacterial drugs. The H-NS protein (histone-like nucleoid structuring) is recognized by its role in the nucleoid structure of Escherichia coli and Salmonella enterica. In addition, H-NS also silences the expression of sequences displaying AT content higher than those existing in the genome. This mechanism allows bacteria to acquire new genetic materials in a more secure way. In Burkholderia cenocepacia H111, six proteins containing the H-NS motif are present. One of these proteins has a unique amino-terminal region when compared to the H-NS family. As part of the functional characterization, the interactome of this atypical H-NS motif-containing protein will be determined in the present study.(AU)
