High Entropy Alloys containing Al and refractory metals are promising structural materials for aeronautical applications, complementary to Ni-based superalloys. The knowledge of the phase equilibria in the Al-V-Zr system corresponds to an important contribution to the development of these alloys, especially for research related to the development of thermodynamic databases. In the present work, the investigation of the phase equilibria in the Zr-rich region of the Al-V-Zr system at 1100ºC will be experimentally carried out by producing samples in an arc furnace, followed by heat treatment at 1100ºC for 10 days under vacuum, microstructural characterization using scanning electron microscopy (SEM), electron microanalysis by energy dispersive spectroscopy (EDS) and X-ray diffraction (XRD). The results will allow a more accurate knowledge of the phase relations in this system, elucidating questions arising from previous studies, part of which were identified both by the student and by other members of the research group to which he belongs.
