Abstract

Structural optimization methods - such as Topology Optimization (TO) - are often used in different areas and types of structures. Despite the large potential, structural TO is rarely applied in ship design. In this context, this scientific initiation project aims to explore the potential of the TO method to reduce the overall weight of maritime vessels. This project is part of a Young Investigators Project on TO for offshore structures and shall build upon codes developed by the team. The simulation based on finite elements of a ship's hull frame should be reviewed and carried out. A quasi-static analysis will be adopted. Then, an optimization study case will be developed based on stiffness criteria with volume constraints. The optimized design will be compared with the existing frame configuration.(AU)
