Abstract

The pollen grains of 13 species of native Ericales (belonging to Ebenaceae, Lecythidaceae, Myrsinaceae, Sapotaceae, and Styracaceae) from remaining forest fragments in the northwest of São Paulo will be studied. This study aims to characterize the pollen morphology by providing data that can contribute to the palynological characterization, taxonomy, and systematics of these families, expanding the knowledge of morphological data in order to assist in the conservation of native species in forest areas. For the pollen analysis, herborized materials will be used from plants of forest fragments. The pollen grains will be autolyzed, measured, and photomicrographed under light microscopy. Qualitative data will be described and used to define pollen types, while quantitative data will be analyzed by descriptive and multivariate statistics in order to identify metric similarities in the pollen grains of the analyzed species. For a detailed description of the exine, scanning electron microscopy will be used, when necessary.(AU)
