Abstract

This project proposes to investigate the nature of the songs performed by Inezita Barroso in Brazilian films. Barroso was one of the greatest singers of caipira music, a scenario strongly formed by conservatism; however, her approach, both in her personal and professional life, was full of contemporary thoughts that saw certain independence and resilience in women. In this sense, the study in this research aims to analyze the songs sung by Inezita in the movies, precisely the ones of the 1950s, and to examine the performance and the ideas behind these songs. To this, initially, a study will be made about Inezita herself, followed by a survey of her films and songs present in her cinematographic career, to, in the end, investigate the lyrics and some traces of the singer's performance. Along the way, we will use background materials on the artist's trajectory, the theory, and the history of cinema and music, as well as several fonts about the movie and music. In this way, we hope to evaluate how the presence (or the absence) of the female figure operates in these songs, as well as to contribute to studies in the area. (AU)
