Abstract

This research investigates the translation of web news considering translation as a phenomenon of cultural representation. We aimed to reflect on the proceedings utilized by the translators to represent female gender, through the language. We understand that journalism itself is associated with the reports of facts; hence, what distinguishes the role of translators from journalists are their raw materials. From this perspective, we can reflect on the role that social institutions play on the translation of journalistic texts, as well as their power and influence in the transmission of ideologies that impact, via discourse, on the formation of public opinion. Our hypothesis is that the feminist's movements, in theirs social and political dimensions, have influenced and continue to influence the translation activity as an ideological factor which focuses on the subjects in the discourses production. In this manner, we intend to reflect upon, from the perspective of lexical studies, the ideological components present in feminists' translations and phallocentric translations (HENITIUK, 1999) produced in the contemporaneity. The analysis corpus consists of articles published in Portuguese and Spanish in digital version of newspapers (El País, Folha de São Paulo), the web news. (AU)
