Making conexions between hahstag, archive and resistance: observing the hashtag marielle presente

Abstract

This project aims to investigate the relations between hashtags, the notion of archive (PÊCHEUX, 1981) and resistance (PÊCHEUX, 1990; MODESTO, 2016). In order to do so, we usethe theoretical and methodological devices of materialist discourse analysis. Thus, we seek tomake a theoretical undertaking about the discursive operation of hashtags (specifically politicalhashtags, those that communicate from the place of social movements) and, thus, mobilize adefinition of hashtag that, so far, in my initial gesture, is taken as an enunciate (always liable tobecome another, according to Pêcheux (1990). My starting hypothesis is that this archiveoperates by the effect of completeness (bringing an & quot; everything is already & quot;) but also of infinitude (evoking a & quot; everything can become & quot;); given the excessive character of hashtags and other discourses that circulate in the digital, this archive also works by excess and repetition -which can silence some meanings, but also produce ruptures and displacements. As a still beginning corpus, we focus on the hashtag #mariellepresente (and its derivations -#mariellevive and #quemmandoumatarmarielle?) in an attempt to understand the flaws, sense disputes and contradictions present in the archive formed by this hashtag(s) and, also, to understand in what way (and if) the political hashtags found an element of resistance.
