Abstract

Malignant Mesothelioma (MM) is a neoplasm with a high mortality rate, a virtually zero survival rate in five years of follow-up, and incidence related to exposure to agents, primarily occupational, such as asbestos. The therapeutic options available are restricted due to identification in advanced, inoperable stages. In the last decade, targeted therapy instruments in other neoplasms, such as melanoma, have shown to be promising, so their extension to MM has been the subject of several investigations and investments by the pharmaceutical industry. The present work aims to establish a correlation between morphological aspects and immune mediation and the presentation of MM in a retrospective cohort of Brazilian patients, in order to assess the possibility of new immune-mediated therapeutic targets intrinsic to tumor biology.(AU)
