Abstract

Psychosocial factors such as self-efficacy and self-regulation, as well as lifestyle are associated with the condition of chronic musculoskeletal pain7. The relationship between self-efficacy and shoulder pain is now better established, which is not observed in relation to self-regulation and lifestyle. Thus, the primary objective of the study is to verify whether self-efficacy, self-regulation and lifestyle are associated with shoulder pain and disability. The secondary objective is to verify if there is an association between self-efficacy and self-regulation and these two psychosocial aspects with lifestyle. Psychometric analyzes of internal consistency and structural validity will also be performed by confirmatory factor analysis of The Short Self Regulation Questionnaire (SSRQ) scale that assesses self-regulation. 155 individuals with shoulder pain for at least six months will be recruited, of both sexes, with a total score of 30 or more in the Shoulder Pain and Disability Index (SPADI) questionnaire and with positive impact tests. Self-efficacy will be assessed by the Pain Self-Efficacy Questionnaire (PSEQ-10), self-regulation by the SSRQ, lifestyle by the "Fantastic Lifestyle" questionnaire, shoulder pain and disability by SPADI and pain intensity by the Visual Numerical Scale. Multiple Linear Regression will be used to verify the association of self-efficacy, self-regulation and lifestyle with the SPADI score by the backward method. This analysis will also include sample characterization variables in the model that show association with the SPADI score in a simple linear regression just to control for mediating factors. The associations between self-efficacy and self-regulation, as well as self-efficacy and self-regulation with lifestyle will be established by the Pearson or Sperman Correlation Coefficient. The internal consistency of the SSRQ scale will be obtained using Cronbach's Alpha and the confirmatory factor analysis will be performed using the maximum likehood estimation method, with varimax rotation. We hope to find an association between psychosocial factors and lifestyle with shoulder pain and disability, as well as between psychosocial factors and lifestyle in patients with chronic shoulder pain. Adequate internal consistency and confirmatory factor analysis consistent with the original English version of the SSRQ scale are also expected.(AU)
