Abstract

This project refers to a three-month research internship at the University of California Berkeley and it is linked to the postdoctoral project "Brazilian Racialization: an analysis of the implementation of heteroidentification commissions in the selection processes for admission to public universities'', supervised by Professor Ana Maria Fonseca de Almeida. During this period, the goal is to advance the analysis of the research empirical materials in dialogue with experts in race relations, in particular with professor Tiana S. Paschel, a scholar of race relations in Latin America who will supervise the internship. Discussion about what made possible the diffusion of heteroidentification procedures around the country, and how it has interacted with racialization processes already in place will be supported by the examination of documentation produced by universities, student collectives and extra-university activist groups, by in in-depth interviews with students, staff, teachers and activists involved in implementation processes of five committees, as well as a two-year ethnography of the operation of a commission. In addition, the internship will allow for discussions with other scholars and researchers who specialize in race relations and higher education, among others. (AU)
